How Give-to-Get Works

Reviews & Ratings

Give-to-get is Ostrich's reciprocity engine. When you request access to a gated review, insight, or score breakdown, the system checks whether you've contributed equivalent value. If you haven't, it queues a review request for a product you've used. This keeps the marketplace from becoming a pure consumption platform.

How requests are generated

When you unlock a piece of gated content, Ostrich looks at your profile's stated tech stack and surfaces a review request for one of those tools. You're never asked to review a product you haven't used — the matching is based entirely on what you've listed under your current stack in Settings. Keeping your stack current means more relevant requests and faster queue resolution.

What happens if you don't complete a pending review

Pending reviews don't expire immediately, but after 14 days without action your access to new gated content is paused. Existing unlocked content remains accessible. Complete your pending review to restore access. You can dismiss a request if you no longer use the product — dismissals count against your dismissal quota (3 per year on free tier).

  • Each gated unlock may trigger one review request
  • Requests are matched to your current tech stack
  • Access paused after 14 days of inactivity, not revoked
  • Free tier: 3 dismissals per year; paid tier: unlimited dismissals
